But, clearly, the best thing about eBid is that there are not any listing fees. This is huge if you want to test out a market or have some items that you aren’t sure will sell. For this reason, eBid is my number one Ebay alternative.

Another option is netSpray which bills itself as the “Free Online Marketplace.” At netSpray there aren’t really any fees. You don’t face an insertion fee, a service fee, a final value fee or have to subscribe to the site in order to use it. Additionally, you can export your listings via a widget and place them in your own website or blog or on another site such as Facebook or MySpace. You can also include mini-listings of your item in emails if you have a newsletter or are an email marketer.

So those are a couple of options you might consider if you are looking for an ebay alternative. And of course there will always be new e-commerce sites popping up every now and again and I will do by best to keep you appraised of those. But, and here is my final word:

For most people eBay remains the best place to start out. If you are already a powerseller, you have the resources and background to conduct a successfully campaign on another site. However, if you are just looking to learn how to make money with Ebay auctions then eBay remains your best bet. Sure, sign up at eBid and netSpray but focus most of your efforts on Ebay. You can still make a lot of money on eBay if you are willing to learn the game and learn your market. I know many ebay sellers who have simply found profitable products in under-served markets and, by tapping into these markets, have been able to generate profits upwards of a thousand dollars a day. While this may sound like a hard-to-find arrangement, the fact is that these wholesalers have, for years, been doing just this sort of thing of millions of Ebay powersellers. And, some of these top power sellers have turned this type of business relationship into a net worth of millions of dollars.

So, again we return to our primary question: How do you find reputable wholesalers to enter into business with? There are several websites which sell lists of wholesalers that you can buy from anywhere between $50 and $1000. Sadly, most of these websites operate scam operations. The lists that they sell have not been approved and certified and many are in fact fly by night operations. ). So be careful. In this industry, more than just about any other, you get what you pay for. Expect to shell out at least one hundred dollars for a decent wholesale directory and be prepared to spend a few hundred to get lifetime access to one of the premier wholesaler sites — usually their is a membership fee of about $75/year to belong to a clearing house. So, if you get into the business of making money selling items on Ebay and do so for ten years, your out of pocket will be $750 for the decade. Obviously, since you can easily make that in a jiffy, it is a small cost of doing business that is entirely reasonable for most sellers.

Often when people decide to start selling on ebay they follow the all-too-familiar path. First, once they have decided they’d like a little extra income, they start auctions selling some of the excess items that they already own. They clean out their garages and attics and make a few bucks in the process. At this point, having tasted a little of the Ebay income, they realize that if they only had access to more stuff, more items to sell on ebay, they could make more money. Actually, they realize that they could make a lot more money!

Typically, these folks go on to google something like “wholesaler for ebay” and end up going in on a $1000 order of spanish-language DVD’s or knock-off digital cameras. When their merchandise shows up late and  in poor condition (or never shows up at all) they realize that this Ebay business might be a little trickier than they first imagined.
